I built a planter out of scrap wood for my tomatoes!

I built a planter box for my tomato plant!! Bom Chica Bow Wow!!
The wood I got from the work dumpster….they throw out so many good USEABLE items here. The wood stain I had leftover from the photo frame distressing project…the only investment made were nails, the sealer to prevent the wood from rotting, and the wheels I put on the bottom. It looks amazing! and it’s the first time I physically made something from scrap (I did have Joel cut the wood to size for me…I’m scared of power saws) But look at this masterpiece!
Next time (I have a lot of wood on my patio) I’m using smaller nails and a nail gun and purchase a higher grit of sandpaper. I’m going to build another one for onions or peppers…I haven’t picked one yet. The only downsize is this thing needs more than one of those large bags of soil.
I spend roughly 10-15 bucks for the supplies…whereas home depot sells square wooden planters from 20 dollars and up.
cha ching.
The best part though, was the socialization this project brought me. I had to constantly talk to home depot associates in order to get the right product (i.e. I did not need a lacquer like I thought I did), I got to know my neighbors by borrowing their drill multiple times and towards the end the husband was in my backyard teaching me about the different type of screws in the world (who knew machine and wood screws did two different things and were made differently?) In conclusion, I know home depot much more thoroughly than I ever did before (and I will never go to the Placentia branch ever again….terrible service/store associates) I finally really know my neighbors (they live in the living room just like I do) and all four of the family members waved to me when they were pulling in (even the bratty daughter) and finally….I have an awesome planter that will bring me my favorite vegetable come May.
